And do us a favor while you're out there, give Jason Schmidt, Andruw Jones, Nomar Garciaparra, Rafael Furcal, (and Juan Pierre soon) a good ol' show of support pat on the back from their fans in Los Angeles.

and you’ll miss him” starter Eric Stultz, who is making Brad Penny, Hiroki Koruda, and Jason Schmidt look as worthless as their arms (in all fairness, Koruda is pretty much EXACTLY what the Dodgers and fans expected him to be). Without knowing when or how the Dodgers will win again, considering that this team is as inconsistent as an Tommy Lasorda’s bowel movements, I spend today rejoicing as the Dodgers are now 2-6 against the American League and the National League is a combined 12-infinity against AL as well. While it feels that there has been a dominance of the AL over the NL has been progressively consistent since the new millennium, although the exact opposite is true with the NL posting a 1,104-1095 record over the AL. Since the 2005 season however, the AL hold the advantage with a 292-213 advantage. Never is it more clear in any sport that baseball is held pretty strictly to the “law of large numbers”.

Barry Zito and Jason Schmidt: Rumor has it that the Dodgers drove up the asking price of Barry Zito by attempting to sign him and then giving Jason Schmitt his insane contract. Once they realized that instead of signing a left handed, past his prime, 30 year old pitcher with a declining fastball, they could actually sign a RIGHT handed 36 year old starting pitcher with a declining fastball for nearly the same per year average, the Dodgers leapt at the opportunity. Schmitt has pitched 6 games in a year and a half, lost 4 of them, and still has a freakish giant baby head on a skinny man’s body, and that’s not even what he’s on the DL for. Zito has gone a combined 13-34 since signing his contract and pitches like he should be on the DL. I stay awake at night and yearn for the chance to sign both of them again, but there can be only one overpaid mediocre starting pitcher on the Dodgers, “Highlander”.

Examples: Signing Jason Schmidt from the Giants for three years and $47 million; signing Nomar Garciaparra for two years and $10 million.

Although Schmidt’s signing also counts as a violation of the tenth commandment, we’re filing it here to reflect Schmidt’s injury-plagued existence on the Dodgers. The Dodgers acquired Schmidt as a free agent before the 2007 season, despite whispers that he had lost some velocity in his last year with the Giants. Last year, as supposed ace of the staff, Schmidt pitched six games. He posted an ERA over six, recording as many wins (one) as homers before succumbing to a variety of injuries. He has yet to pitch this year.
