Derek Lowe

26 August 2008

I figured the Dodgers wouldn't give up a game to a team doing far worse then them. With Derek Lowe pitching and the hits the Dodgers have been getting recently you would figure they would put some runs on the board. Wrong again, in the last 23 innings the Dodgers have scored 1 run while producing 34 hits. Thats ridiculous!

As is their custom, the Dodgers took the day off with Derek Lowe on the mound. The Dodgers had only three baserunners while Lowe was pitching, and they have scored a grand total of eight runs for him in his eight losses this season. Despite surrendering one run in seven solid innings, he was tagged with his eighth loss. I mentioned yesterday that Lowe has a tendency to lose 1-0 games, and today that prediction unfortunately came true.

nd throughout the year they have been at the bottom of the pack in nearly every offensive category. Derek Lowe probably has it worst, as he has made a living of surrendering one run in seven innings and still getting saddled with the loss; in the last year and a half I think he has lost 240 games by scores of 1-0 or 2-1.

I did see Chicago’s last four runs, including the two-run blast by Jermaine Dye to chase Derek Lowe.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers returned to the offensive funk that has plagued them all season long. The Dodgers had five hits other than Young’s homer, all of them singles, and managed to erase most of them on double plays or force plays.

Derek Lowe, moved up a day to compensate for the absences of Brad Penny and Hiroki Kuroda, went 5⅓ sparkling innings, surrendering only a solo homer to Edward Encarnacion in his 85 pitches. Lowe improved to 5-6 on the season and recorded his first road win since last August. Hong-Chih Kuo and Cory Wade pitched well in relief, as each lowered his ERA to under 2.00.

rk at the plate and in the clubhouse than behind it, Varitek has caught no-hitters from Hideo Nomo, Derek Lowe, Clay Buchholz and, now, Jon Lester's. He's the first catcher in major league history to catch four no-hitters, and that's no coincidence.
